History

Rajaji National Park was established in 1983 by merging three wildlife sanctuaries namely Motichur (1964), Rajaji (1948) and Chilla (1977). The park is named after the famous statesman and freedom fighter who was the first Governor of independent India, Shri C.K., honors Rajagopalachari.
According to historical sources During his visit to Dehradun in 1948 as Governor Shri Rajgopalchari Taken to the shooting wing of the Dehradun Forest Department, this visit played a key role in the establishment of the Rajaji Wildlife Sanctuary, which later became the national park we know today.
